陈燕燕是满族正黄旗贵族之后，原名陈茜茜，1916年1月12日出生于浙江宁波。

获奖时她只有17岁，被称为“南国乳燕”  。

Chen Yanyan was born Chen Qianqian on January 12, 1916 in Ningbo, Zhejiang province.

She was only 17 years old when she won the prize and was known as the "Milky Swallow of the South"

出身满清贵族的父亲并不同意她进入演艺圈，但是陈燕燕自有主见，父亲拗不过她，要求她“不准用家里的姓；不准说家里的事；不准继承财产；不准败坏门风”。

陈燕燕这个名字是联华经理黎民伟先生起的，她先在暗房当练习生，1930年出演处女作《自杀合同》，一直做配角。1932年，在蔡楚生导演的《南国之春》中，陈燕燕首次担纲女一号，悲情女主角让人心生怜爱，大家都叫她“美丽的小鸟”。

The father who was born in the Qing dynasty did not agree with her to enter the entertainment circle, but Chen Yanyan had her own ideas, her father was unable to persuade her, asking her "not to use the family name; Don't talk about the family; No inheritance of property; Do not corrupt the door."

The name Chen Yanyan was given by Mr. Li Minwei, the manager of Lianhua. She first worked as a darkroom trainee and then played a supporting role in her debut film The Suicide Contract in 1930. In 1932, Chen Yanyan played the first female role in The southern Spring directed by CAI Chusheng. The tragic heroine was so beloved that people called her "beautiful bird".

当时的陈燕燕擅长扮演少女，天真活泼、甜美可爱的小女儿。随着年龄增长，她一改戏路，在马徐维邦的《寒江落雁》一片中成功地塑造了悲剧人物，再一次引起轰动。《不了情》《天魔劫》等影片，为她赢得了了“第一悲后”的美誉。

At that time, Chen Yanyan was good at playing a young girl, innocent and lively, sweet and lovely little daughter. As she grew older, she changed her way of acting and succeeded in portraying tragic characters in Ma Xu Weigang's Wild Geese Falling in the Cold River, which once again caused a sensation. She won the reputation of "The first Sad Queen" for her films such as "No Love" and "The Scourge of Heaven".

1949年陈燕燕移居香港，1952年与爱人王豪创办海燕影片公司。1961年，陈燕燕凭借在台湾拍摄的《音容劫》，获亚洲影展最佳女配角奖，1993年荣获台湾第三十届金马奖纪念奖。

1999年5月7日，陈燕燕去世，享年83岁。

Chen moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and founded Haiyan Film Company with her lover Wang Hao in 1952. In 1961, Chen yanyan won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Asian Film Festival for her role in The Film "Sound and Face", which was shot in Taiwan. In 1993, she won the commemorative Award of the 30th Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan.

On May 7, 1999, Chen Yanyan died at the age of 83.
